Serving in our community.
Many people measure success by their bank account, job title, or position of influence. However, Jesus teaches us that true success comes through serving others, “Whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave” (Matthew 20:26-27).
Believers have assurance of forgiveness and salvation but we also have the responsibility of serving others. God has a plan for each of us and has provided us with special talents to carry out his will. We simply need to accept and obey. Take time to pray and ask God to reveal his plan for how you can serve others.
Since February 2012, the Serve Team at Hood UMC has been busy setting up and implementing The Community Kitchen. We provide free meals to the community Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. You can help by signing up to cook and serve meals. We are also looking for volunteers to help with advertising, planning meals, and organizing volunteers.
Another ongoing service project we do is the Community Blood Center blood drive. We do this about four times a year. It is organized by Hobart Stewart. You can help by donating blood and encouraging others to give.
Now that the Community Kitchen is up and running, we are looking into doing an adult mission trip and brainstorming ideas for other service projects. Your input is valuable. If you would like to be a part of the planning process or join the Serve Team contact Sandy Embretson @ 732-7787 (H), 860-0024 (C-texts welcome), or email@example.com
